NEW    ATM SCAM
This ATM scam is particularly nasty and, apparently, becoming
more and more popular amongst crooks.  The first of the slides
are actual surveillance photos taken by the camera at the ATM
machine, the others are police photos showing how the scam
was accomplished. The PowerPoint slide show was prepared
and distributed by the RCMP and is  the real thing.
Please pass it on to those who you think might fall for this ATM
scam - the most   popular targets are, of course, seniors.

According to a survey conducted by ISP
Earthlink and Webroot Software,
an average of 28 spyware programs are
installed on any given computer.

What Is Spyware?
Spyware is software that tracks your
internet use and can capture what you
type. Spyware applications are bundled
in freeware or shareware programs
which are downloaded from the internet.
Spyware is "hidden" in these programs
and once installed on your computer,
Spyware can gather info about email
addresses, passwords, phone  numbers,
credit card numbers, etc. The majority of
freeware and shareware programs do
not come with Spyware, but it is a good
idea to have a good Firewall on your
computer system, one that detects
software with potential threats.

Identity Theft will most likely grow
even faster during 2005
Spyware, viruses, trojans, worms,
phishing, and other spam are all used to
commit Identity Theft.

One growing problem is
keystroke loggers, also called
keyloggers. A keystroke logger is a
hardware device or software program
that monitors each keystroke a user
types on the keyboard. This information
can then easily be transmitted to a
scammer, who then has access to user
names, passwords, and other
confidential information.

The keyloggers are installed on personal
computers via hardware or software.
Software keyloggers are installed via
viruses, worms, trojans, and Spyware.
Hardware keyloggers can be installed in
ATM machines, on gas pumps, etc.
collecting credit card and bank info, as
well as passwords and PIN numbers.

Different Identity Theft schemes will
grow more sophisticated in 2005. Plus,
personal information stolen via phishing
and other types of scams will spread
even  faster via sophisticated
international hacker networks.

Now that you know of these growing
dangers, please remember that if you
don't ever respond to spam, most of your
online experience will be safe.
Work At Home Schemes
Research the company and always check them out with the
Better Business Bureau (BBB) located in their city.

Work At Home Schemes.
Medical Billing  -This job typically goes like this - you see an ad in
the newspaper or on the Internet for a Medical Billing job. After
applying, they then ask you to invest anywhere from
$50. - $500.00 for Medical Billing software, manuals and
equipment to start your own Medical Billing company. While
Medical Billing and Medical Transcription work at home jobs are
on the rise, they do not charge a fee to start. If you are interested
in pursuing this type of career, there are many accredited schools
that will train you for this type of position!
See

Medical Billing training.

If you are unsure about a company, get specific information (in
writing) from the company such as number of years  they have
been in business, where they are located (not just a P.O. Box or
email address), number of customers they have, what their
refund policy is (read it thoroughly), pay policies and if there are
any restrictions on payments, etc. Also, make sure to read any
"fine print" on any forms or contracts. Usually, I find, that a totally
legit company or small business will have all of that info posted
on their website, with references, because they are aware of all
the scam artists out there, and they want to maintain a level of
credibility with their website visitors.

If you do invest in a business opportunity, use your credit card
instead of cash. At least you have a record with your credit card
company. Getting your money back is easier this way - can't trace
cash.

Research current scams on web sites such as

Visit The National Fraud Information Center website for
information.
Report any scams or fraudulent companies to the
Federal Trade Commission
Don't invest in any opportunity that you are not sure about. Find an
opportunity that you enjoy, or start your own home business.

Usually, when you enjoy doing something, you excel in that area -
the money will follow.
If you LOVE what you do, and aren't doing it JUST for the money,
you won't have to "work" a day in your life!!
