Newest Telephone Scam:
I've received this call twice already. A
call comes in from an Unknown Caller,
saying you have won a FREE trip. All you
have to do is PRESS 9.
  HANG UP!!
Apparently, if you press 9, your phone
number can be used to make long
distance calls all over the world.

Beware of Disaster Scams
Email Viruses and Trojans:

photos of disaster areas or survivors.
DO NOT OPEN
These attachments may contain
Computer Viruses
or contain a link asking for personal or
banking information.
Photos and info on Disasters can be
found on MSN.com. You don't need
someone emailing this material

Sale of Hurricane flood damaged used
cars:
Scammers are selling Hurricane flood
damaged used cars that were
submerged in water for days after
Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.
Typically, these cars have been declared
totalled and are being sold at auctions for
parts. Dishonest dealers are buying
these cars, for pennies, cleaning them
up, re-titling them and reselling them as
regular cars.
Check the car's history using the VIN.

You can do this here.

detected and removed. This program gives me peace of mind
and a feeling of protection.
Phishing Alert: I received a fake email from what was claimed to
be Paypal. I must say, their emails look very authentic. The thing
that made me suspicious was that the email was sent to my
secondary email address. To be on the safe side, just make it a
rule
NEVER to click on ANY of the links in a paypal email, real or
fake. Log in at:

Whatever information or updates are required, will also be
noted when you log in.
Type the address into the address bar
yourself, don't click on ANY links
. Better safe than sorry.

Top Scam - Identity Theft and Personal Info
Theft  -  Credit Card Fraud
Identity Theft and Theft of Personal  Information
If you receive emails with the word  phishing in it, BEWARE:
The term comes from techies who like to replace the letter 'f'
with 'ph.' So, the term applies to
scamsters who are phishing
for your private information
, to steal your credit card or bank
info -- or worse, your identity.

Emails, claiming to be your Online Banking Institute, could be
requesting info such as:
Bank Routing/ABA Number (9 digits):
First 6 digits of your Banking Card:
Online Banking Login ID (CIN or CAN):
DELETE these emails immediately.
Your Online Banking Password (or PIN), Legitimate banks and
organizations may send you offers and coupons via email, but
they do NOT ask for your personal and banking information via
email.
If you have any question about the legitimacy of an email, go to
the official website directly, or call or email the company.
Never click on the link in the email.
ACTION: Never, ever, ever respond to emails that ask for
personal info. DELETE!!!!

'Vishing' is the New 'Phishing'
Better Business Bureaus frequently warn that scam artists are the
first to take advantage of new technology. The latest example of
scammer ingenuity is the use of Voice over Internet Protocol
(VoIP) phones to steal people’s financial information. This new
scam is called "vishing" -- short for "voice phishing." It can work
one of two ways. In the online version, the con artist sends a blast
e-mail, disguised to appear as though it’s from a financial
institution, an online payment service or other well-known
business.
