When I'm interested in a company's products or services, I head straight for
the About Us section of its Web site.
I'm not only looking for pricing information, I'm looking for credibility. Does
the company appear professional, or does it look as if it is operating out of a
garage?
Your About Us page is your opportunity to prove to potential customers that
your company is legitimate, provides a good service and will be around the
next time they go shopping.
But it's more than that. A variety of groups, including members of the press,
industry analysts, advertisers, partners, investors and potential employees,
might use your About Us page as a resource.
Here's a look at what you can include:
Corporate profile. This can include your company's history, mission,
corporate philosophy, goals, objectives, organizational structure, type of
products or services you provide, and what advantages your company has
on the competition.
Management team bios. People want to know more about whom they're
buying from or working with. Listing your management team with brief bios
not only gives potential customers confidence that your business is run by
proficient, experienced managers but humanizes your company.
Press releases/news coverage. No matter how small the business, events
always need to be reported. Announce new products or services, new staff
additions and achievements such as passing a 1,000-member goal.
Community involvement, new partnerships, new investors, a big sale or
recent media coverage make good material for this section.
